Dataset: 2010 General Election Precinct Data

Description: This file contains statewide precinct level voting results. 
SR precincts are derived from Consolidated Precincts and are a geographic unit constructed 
for statistical merging purposes by the Statewide Database.

Variable codebooks: SOV data codebooks are county and election specific. Unlike the SOR 
files that contain the same variables in every county, every election; the SOV codes 
books vary by election and by county depending on the district races that are on the ballot
in the county and who the candidates are that are running in those races. 

To use the SOV code book to determine the candidates that were on a ballot in a given
precinct, retrieve the district number from the table/ file for that precinct record.

The Assembly, Congressional and Senate district that each precinct is located in are listed in
the columns ADDIST, CDDIST and SDDIST in the SOV data files.

For instance, the 2012 Primary, Sonoma County svprec 1001 is located in the 5th
Congressional district according to the sov data file which means that cngdem01 corresponds
to Mike Thompson for that record while the 2012 Primary, Sonoma County svprec
1048 is located in the 2nd Congressional district so cngdem01 corresponds to Susan 
Adams for this precinct record. It is for this reason that it is not possible to have a single 
statewide codebook for the SOV files.  

Some records will be all zeros (eg cnggrn01) in cases where there were no candidates for that 
party in that race. 

Date last modified: 3/13/2013, the c085, Santa Clara County file was updated to correct a processing error that resulted
in sr precinct 1633 being converted to 1578. The new version contains the records for precinct 1633 unlike the previous 
where it was merged under precinct 1578.
